biography

Orestis Kalampalikis was born in Athens, Greece, in 1981. He started the guitar at the age of 7. After finishing his musical studies at the National Conservatory of Athens, in the class of Yiannis Petridis, he was accepted in the Conservatoire National de Musique et de Danse in Paris. There he studied with Roland Dyens and obtained the Diplôme de Formation Supérieure in 2009. Since then he has also attended many master classes. Orestis has won several prizes in international guitar competitions: In 2006 in Greece, he won the Conservatoire of Filippos Nakas-Patras 1st prize, the Panhellenic guitar competition of Veria 1st prize. He was awarded the “The Ivor Mairants Guitar Award” (he came 3rd) and in 2007 in Fontenay-sous-bois in France, he was the 1st prize winner. Apart from his classical formation Orestis has been influenced by various musical styles: he plays electric guitar and bouzouki when collaborating with other artists. Alongside with his performing activities he has studied composition in the Conservatoire des Gennevilliers with Bernard Cavanna. Three of his solo guitar works have won first prizes in international guitar composition competitions: the “World Guitar Competition” in Novisad,Serbia -2012, “Lycia Guitar Days” in Antalya,Turkey-2014, the “Nilufer Guitar Days” Bursa,Turkey - 2015. His works are published at Oz productions and Éditions Lemoine. Orestis also composes for the theatre and has collaborated with the companies RL, Strates, Parpadou, Urubu. He lives in Paris.
